The Required Profile

A well-established entrepreneurial couple is looking for a trustworthy butler with the skillset of a PA.  A professional who is passionate about his work and has excellent management skills.

Housekeeping tasks are not the main focus of this position, but you will have to coordinate the housekeepers. The family has a large apartment, with also 2 offices.  Receiving and welcoming guests (private and business clients from all over the world), and assisting during the meetings will be the most important.

General tasks and skills that the required butler should have mastered are:

  • Being responsible for all house management & housekeeping duties: building and maintaining a structure and coordinating with other staff members.
  • Family assistant/ PA skill, such as helping with tasks such as calendar management, travel arrangements, and coordinating appointments (medical, professional etc).
  • Table management: includes setting tables and serving meals, serving skills, service styles, table manners, making coffee, and serving wines.
  • Laundry and Wardrobe management: knowledge of linens and fine fabric care, clothing maintenance, ironing & pressing, dry-cleaning, and also ordering clothes and product knowledge.
  • Cooking: knowledge of hygiene, speed cuisine: making a healthy breakfast and lunch if needed.
  • Valeting skills: purchasing and taking care of clothing and shoes, maintaining inventories, and packing and unpacking suitcases.
  • Knowledge of etiquette & protocol
  • Pet care: knowledge of caring for a dog

The required profile

  • Experience and knowledge of the profession of a butler;
  • Experience in working in a private household;
  • Able to manage and brief other staff members;
  • A friendly and calm character, but always having a professional attitude;
  • A person wishing to invest in a long-term relationship;
  • it would be a plus if you have good cooking skills
  • English is mandatory (not speaking or understanding Russian)

Located on a private island, just 10 minutes from the center of Lyon (9th arrondissement), in the heart of a lush green setting, this five-star establishment welcomes both professional and leisure guests to the exceptional setting of a former abbey.

The owners and management are looking for a full-time butler to join the team. Do you go above and beyond for your guests? Are you proactive with exceptional attention to detail? Then we are looking for you!

Main Tasks

  • Assisting the General Manager with all tasks on the property.
  • Managing housekeeping (room maids) and conducting quality checks of their work in the suites.
  • Taking care of the private family home (220 m²) located on-site.
  • Customer reception (both B2C and B2B clients) as a backup for the owner and when the managers are not on-site.
  • Organizing room service and breakfast (preparing or checking the room maids’ work + serving the clients).
  • Maintaining the garden.
  • Caring for animals when the manager or owners are not around (2 peacocks, 1 dog, and potentially 2 alpacas in the future).

The Required Profile

  • Experience & training in hospitality.
  • Operational experience in a private home and/or high-end hotel.
  • A person willing to invest in a long-term relationship with the team.
  • Skills in laundry care and ironing.
  • A driver’s license is essential (the location is difficult to access by public transport), especially in the evenings and during school holidays.
  • Language skills: French (native), English (fluent).

The Offer

  • Full-time position (35 hours/week, including weekends).
  • 2 consecutive rest days (depending on activity and occupancy).
  • Employee status.
  • Based in Lyon (9th arrondissement).
  • Free parking nearby (2 minutes’ walk).
  • Trial period: 2 months, renewable for 1 month.
  • Salary package: €29,000 - €35,000 per year, based on experience.
  • Accommodation will be provided on the property.

The Location

  • 1 Loft (150 m²) with a 100 m² living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 3 toilets.
  • 1 Garden View Suite (40 m²) located on the ground floor, 3 beds, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and 1 toilet. The suite has direct access to the 3,000 m² park.
  • 1 meeting room that can accommodate up to 12 people, often rented out and forming an integral part of the Loft.
  • 1 Family Suite (90 m²), available from March 2023.
  • The activity of guests is regular, with increased demand from May to September. Currently, there is a team of three room maids (a mix of employees and external contractors) who take turns ensuring the cleanliness of the premises.
  • A Chapel (100 m²) is available for B2B events.
